Knowing what constitutes as a plumbing emergency can help you better understand when to call an emergency plumber. Dash Drains will cover some of the basic situations for which you will need to call an emergency plumber for.
What Is Considered A Plumbing Emergency?
Burst Pipes
If there is water spraying all over your house, you know it’s time to call for emergency plumbing services. However, did you know that you can have a burst pipe and not know it? If you have a sprinkler system and notice a soggy spot in your yard, that's a good indication of a potential leak. The pipes in your walls can also burst, causing damage to your home. Signs of a burst pipe in your walls include a growing water stain either in your ceiling or wall, soggy patches of drywall, or a soggy spot in your carpet. If you notice any of these, shut off your water and call Dash Drains’ 24 hour service line.
Water Heater Failure
When your water heater fails, it's not only an inconvenience to not have hot water, but it can also cause damage to your floors. While most of the time they should be piped to a drain, there are cases in which that is not possible to do and the water heater sits in a pan. The most common cause of a water heater failure is when they get old and the bottom rusts out, causing a major leak.
Odors
If you are smelling something out of the ordinary around your drains like rotten fish or sewer, chances are there may be a pipe that has broken to cause the smell. If you smell rotten eggs, it could mean you have a natural gas leak. A natural gas leak is a very dangerous situation that needs an emergency plumber immediately.
Clogged Drains
Signs of a clogged drain are slow drainage, bubbling water, and puddles of water. While not all clogged drains are considered an emergency, a ruptured sewer line can be. A sign of a potentially broken sewage pipe other than the smell is if you hear gurgling in the shower drain, or water backing up in the drain while flushing the toilet. A ruptured sewer line can back up into the home and be hazardous. If you see any of the above signs, call for a plumbing service to help you out.
